Bedding House is proud to be the official partner of the Van Gogh Museum Amsterdam. The unique collaboration between the Van Gogh Museum and Bedding House results in a very special bed linen collection. Each design is inspired by one of Vincent van Gogh's paintings. In order to train himself in portraiture, Van Gogh painted friends, acquaintances and himself. The mirror was an indispensable aid in the latter. It is known that during his time in Arles Van Gogh bought a new mirror especially for this purpose. The majority of the 35 self-portraits, however, were created in Paris: no fewer than 29 pieces. In this work he has depicted himself in a neat suit with a gray felt hat, a bourgeois image of the Self-portrait in which Van Gogh is depicted with a straw hat and painter's smock. In this work, Van Gogh experimented with the use of complementary colors and the neo-impressionist technique. A striking feature of this painting is the halo around the artist's head. The effect came not from a desire to present himself as a saint, but from his application of the style of the neo-impressionists. He found the effect of this so successful that he also used it in other portraits.
