Split pea soup (Erwtensoep)
500 grams (1.1 lb) green split peas
1 liter (34 fl oz) water
1 carrot, peeled
1 small potato, peeled
2 ribs celery
1 small onion
1 bay leaf
1 small smoked ham hock, ham bone or sausage
Salt and pepper
Method Of Preparation
Rinse the split peas and bring them together with 2 liters of water, bacon and cankles to boil. Remove any foam that comes driving above-with a slotted spoon.
Leave on low heat about 10 minutes.
Halve the leek lengthwise, rinse clean under the tap and cut the Leek in half rings.
Peel and cut the onions into chunks.
Peel and cut the potatoes into cubes.
Peel and cut the garlic coarsely.
Peel and slice the carrots and celery into cubes
Add the vegetables to the soup.
Let the soup boil about 1.5 hour and stir occasionally well. Possibly with water.
